Foreign body reaction to inhalation of lentil soup: giant cell pneumonia.
نویسنده
چکیده
Granulomatous lesions of the stomach, peritoneum, and lungs caused by an unidentified foreign body have been described at intervals for the past 30 years. Muir (1929) illustrates a nodule from the peritoneal cavity showing giant cell and macrophage reaction around a foreign body probably of vegetable origin. Barnard (1940) illustrates a foreign body reaction in the lung round inhaled particles which have a similar app arance. Sherman and Moran (1954a) describe six cases of granuloma of the stomach associated with gastric ulceration, two of which were caused by vegetable material composed of starch-containing cells. Similar lesions were found in the lungs in the cases now presented, which varied from suppurative aspiration pneumonia to granulomatous lesions with foreign body giant cells and fibrosis.

Foreign body giant cell reactions and ossification associated with benign melanocytic naevi.
AIMS To assess the incidence of foreign body giant cell reactions and ossification in benign/melanocytic naevi; and to examine their pathological features to gain an insight into their pathogenesis. METHODS Intradermal (n = 185) and compound naevi (n = 110) from a routine histology service, together with 60 naevi submitted to an ophthalmic pathologist, were examined for foreign body reactions...
متن کاملHaemorrhagic pleural effusion several months after inhalation of a foreign body.
We present the case of a 50 yr old female with chronic obstructive lung disease, who, secondary to inhalation of a foreign body, developed recurrent pneumonia and a haemorrhagic pleural effusion (HPE). The foreign body (vegetable matter) was removed by rigid bronchoscopy and the patient recovered.
متن کاملCovert inhalation of tablet causing fatal pneumonia.
Inhalation of foreign bodies is usually associated with acute respiratory symptoms. We report a case of an elderly woman who died from pneumonia due to covert tablet inhalation. Clinicians caring for the elderly should consider this as a possible cause for pneumonia which fails to respond to usual therapy.
متن کاملA foreigner in squamous cell carcinoma!
Giant cells are the soldiers of defensive system of our body. They differ based on the stimuli that provoked their formation. On the other hand, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) being the most common oral cancer, presents with varied histopathological features based on the degree of differentiation. Keratinizing islands of dysplastic squamous epithelial cells & a dense inflammatory response form t...
متن کاملCCL2 and CCR2 are Essential for the Formation of Osteoclasts and Foreign Body Giant Cells.
Osteoclasts are multinucleated cells responsible for bone resorption. They are derived from the fusion of cells in the monocyte/macrophage lineage. Monocytes and macrophages can also fuse to form foreign body giant cells (FBGC). Foreign body giant cells are observed at the interface between a host and a foreign body such as implants during a foreign body reaction. Macrophages are attracted to t...
